Ubuntu Rooted’s work is represented by a living tree. Every part is connected. The soil nourishes the roots. The roots support the trunk. The trunk carries strength and learning to the branches. The branches hold the programs and services people can see and experience. Together, the whole tree helps grow change.
Our Soil: Community + Love
Community and love are the soil from which Ubuntu Rooted grows. Community keeps our work grounded in people’s knowledge, experiences, cultures, relationships, and hopes. Love calls us to recognize people’s humanity, protect dignity, tell the truth about harm, and remain accountable to one another.
Love in this context is not passive. It is care expressed through action, honesty, responsibility, and a commitment to changing conditions that cause harm.
Our Roots: Education, Outreach, and Advocacy
Education
We create opportunities for people and organizations to build knowledge, strengthen skills, deepen understanding, and turn learning into action.
Outreach
We build genuine relationships, share resources, reduce barriers to participation, and connect with people in the places where they live, gather, learn, and work.
Advocacy
We work alongside community members to strengthen voice, expand access and opportunity, address inequitable conditions, and influence the decisions and systems that affect people’s lives.
Education, outreach, and advocacy are not separate activities. They work together and nourish every Ubuntu Rooted program, service, and partnership.
Our Trunk: Mission and Shared Approach
The trunk connects our roots to every branch. It represents Ubuntu Rooted’s mission and the shared approach that holds the organization together. Our work is guided by human-centered culture change, targeted universalism, community voice and co-creation, whole-person wellness, and continuous improvement.
We Do Not Take a Band-Aid Approach
Immediate support matters, especially when people need help now. But a short-term response, by itself, does not change the conditions that created the need.
Ubuntu Rooted responds to what people are facing today while also working toward lasting change. We pair direct support with education, trusted information, relationships, advocacy, and opportunities for people to strengthen their voice, choices, and access to resources.
We also work with organizations and systems to remove barriers and change the policies, practices, and decisions that keep producing inequitable outcomes. Our goal is not for people or communities to depend on Ubuntu Rooted. Our goal is to help build knowledge, wellness, opportunity, and community power that continue to grow beyond one program, service, or partnership.
